(TBA News) – Modern science proved that mountains have roots that are deeply embedded in the ground. So mountains have a shape like a peg.

The Holy Quran states:

“أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الأَرْضَ مِهَاداً، وَالْجِبَالَ أَوْتَاداً

“Have We not made the earth as a bed, and the mountains as pegs?” An Nabaa: 5,6

Modern geologists have proven that mountains have deep roots under the surface of the ground and that these roots can reach several times their elevations above the surface of the ground. So, the most adequate word to describe mountains according to this information is the word “peg”, since most of a properly set peg is hidden under the surface of the ground. The history of science tells us that the theory of mountains having deep roots was introduced only in the sixties.

Geological Concept of Mountains

They hinder the shaking of the earth. God said in the holy Quran:

“وَأَلْقَىٰ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ رَوَٰسِىَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِكُمْ وَأَنْهَـٰرًۭا وَسُبُلًۭا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ”

“He has placed into the earth firm mountains, so it does not shake with you, as well as rivers, and pathways so you may find your way.” An Nahl: 15

Could anyone more than 1400 years ago, during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), have known the true shape of mountains? Could anyone imagine that the solid, massive mountain which they see before them actually extends deep into the earth and has a root, as scientists assert? Before the sixties, many books of geology, when discussing mountains, only described the part which is above the surface of the earth. This is because these books were not written by specialists in geology. However, modern geology has proved the truth of the Quran’s verses.
